Mary Cariola Center is seeking Marketing & Communications Interns. Mary Cariola Center is an independent not-for-profit organization that operates a school for children with intellectual developmental disabilities and complex medical challenges located on three campuses in Rochester. Cariola also owns six residential homes for children and youth with severe behavioral issues and complex medical conditions.

2026 marks the third year of a partnership with the Schwartz Community-Based Summer Internship Program. This is an opportunity to join our high-performing team and gain exposure to all aspects of Marketing and Communication. The successful Intern will be provided the opportunity to utilize their skills and experiences to help improve the lives of people with disabilities. This internship will provide practical experiences through active participation, direct exposure and engagement in a variety of functions as well as mentorship. Interns will work closely with the Marketing and Communications Team, as well as Executive staff members to craft messaging as well as increase general community awareness for the agency. This is an unpaid internship, for-academic credit or experience. Full time or Part time.

This internship is not only a learning experience, but just as important, a hands-on internship. Intern(s) will learn marketing structure, and then implement it by “doing” rather than observing.

Will Gain Hands-On Experience:

  • Social Media
  • Crisis Communication
  • Media Buying
  • Website Design
  • Newsletter Production
  • Multiple Advertising Platforms
  • Branding
  • Public Relations

The Marketing and Communications intern will work directly with the Director, Marketing & Communication and the Marketing Specialist. Assignments may include social media postings, E-Newsletter writing and production, overview coordination of media buys, attend team meetings, draft press releases and media alerts, and other marketing communications tasks. The objective for a high energy applicant is twofold; assist in any and all overflow work from the

department and gaining as much knowledge as possible from the experience. Further assignments and tasks to be determined by staff.

Requirements include:

  • Personal or public transportation to and from Mary Cariola’s Elmwood (1000 Elmwood Avenue) School campus.
  • Ability to work (very limited) evenings during special events.
  • A cover letter is preferred, outlining why the applicant would be a good choice to intern at Cariola.
