This internship is part of the Schwartz Community Based Internships. This premier opportunity allows UR undergraduate students to access traditionally unpaid opportunities that highlight the value of the humanities in the workplace. If selected, students will receive a $5,000 stipend over a minimum 270-hour period in a non-for-profit organization in the Rochester, NY region.
Company/Position Overview:
Rochester Refugee Resettlement Services, Inc. and Mary’s Place Refugee Outreach are non-sectarian, not-for-profit, community-based organizations located in northwest Rochester,
providing services to refugee families in our community.
Our mission is to collaborate with landlords, employers, and agencies to provide services and
opportunities to ensure integration of refugees into our society, by assisting as they
strive to be self-sustaining neighbors, while still maintaining their own cultural heritage.
The Case Management Intern will assist in various tasks, including community outreach,
program coordination, and case management support. The intern will also participate in
research projects, help with event planning, and support client service activities. This role
involves working closely with the refugee community and supporting the organization's mission
to provide comprehensive resettlement services.
Responsibilities:
● Advise clients on interpreting correspondence, reading mail, summarizing content, and
scheduling appointments
● Supporting clients with looking for housing, paying rent, RG&E, and utility bills
● Help clients complete job applications, build resumes, and prepare for interviews
● Assist with SNAP, WIC, and HEAP applications
● Provide general case management support as needed
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the internship, the intern will:
● Gain experience assessing client needs and identifying challenges
● Apply real-time solutions to resettlement and integration issues
● Collaborate across various programs to support comprehensive services

Requirements:
● This is an in-person role; the intern must have reliable transportation to the office
● Strong Communication and Interpersonal skills
● Understanding of cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse populations
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
● Experience in non-profit or social service settings is a plus
● Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Social Work, Global Studies,
International Relations, or a related field
