Dance & Movement Intern

This internship is part of the Schwartz Community Based Internships. This premier opportunity allows UR undergraduate students to access traditionally unpaid opportunities that highlight the value of the humanities in the workplace. If selected, students will receive a $5,000 stipend over a minimum 270-hour period in a non-for-profit organization in the Rochester, NY region.

 

The PATHS Program is a clinical intervention designed to build social skills and emotion identity and development with children ages 3-11 from the city of Rochester and Monroe County. Counselors work directly with the children developing and implementing the PATHS skills and problem solving any needs that may arise. 

Dance & Movement Intern This multi-faceted internship will include partnering with community organizations, mentored teaching opportunities with UR Program of Dance & Movement faculty, and developing Program events for the upcoming calendar year. With direction from the community partners, the intern will teach movement classes for a variety of ages. To support the teaching process, interns will have guidance and regular check-ins with Dance Program faculty. 

 

PATHS Summer 2026 *Tentative

Training: 6/23-6/25 10am-5pm (T/W/Th)

Program Dates: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 6/30/2026-8/13/2026

Groups Pre-K A, Group 1, Group 2, ages 4-8 10:00am-2:00pm

Groups Pre-K B, Group 3, Group 4, ages 4-5 and 9-1 1:00pm-5:00pm

 

Qualifications:

· Dance/Movement experience

· Some prior teaching or leadership experience (or taken pedagogy classes)

· Enjoyment of working/moving with elders and grade-school students

· Enthusiastic and motivated individuals

· Reliable and timely

· Passionate about improving the lives of children and families; specifically through building strong and positive relationships with children and, serving as a role model for positive social and emotional skills

· Interest in psychology, social work, counseling or other related human service field

· Dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives as well as promoting anti-racist perspectives
