Assistant Engineer/Engineer Trainee (Environmental)

The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is continuously seeking qualified applicants for engineering positions throughout the state of New York. These positions exist across various environmental quality programs, including water pollution control, air pollution control, solid waste regulation, hazardous waste remediation, hazardous substances regulation, and spill prevention, response and remediation.

DEC engineers work with representatives of all levels of government, as well as regulated entities, engineering consultants, and citizens. As New York State employees, engineers at DEC enjoy a competitive benefits package, including comprehensive health insurance and enrollment in the state retirement system.

Engineer Trainees have a starting salary of $63,108.  After one year of experience and passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, employees will be automatically advanced to the title of Assistant Engineer (Environmental), with a salary of $69,934 - $88,721.  Salaries may increase as a result of future contract negotiations.
