Community Engagement Intern - SAF

This internship is part of the 2024 Humanities for Life (HFL) Summer Internship Program. This premier opportunity allows UR students to access traditionally unpaid opportunities that highlight the value of the humanities in the workplace. If selected, students will receive a $5,000 stipend over a minimum 270-hour period in a non-for-profit organization in the Rochester, NY region.

About Student Arts Foundation: 
Student Arts Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing students with the resources and opportunities they need to empower their creative aspirations. We pride ourselves on serving the Rochester community, especially underrepresented youths, by bridging the art access gap and fostering a new generation of artistic talent. 

Position Overview: 
We are seeking a proactive and passionate Community Engagement Intern to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be a great communicator with a genuine interest in community service, particularly within the arts sector. This position will play an essential role in working with our partner organizations and managing organization communications, both online and in-person, to strengthen our mission's impact. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Partner Collaboration: 

  • Work closely with partner organizations to brainstorm and implement strategies to further bridge the art access gap in Rochester. 
  • Serve as a liaison between SAF and partner entities, ensuring smooth communication and collaborative event planning. 

Communication Management: 

  • Handle in-person communication with stakeholders, partners, and the community during events, workshops, and meetings. 
  • Manage online communications, including responding to queries on social media platforms, emails, and the organization's website. 
  • Assist in the creation of online content, including blog posts, social media updates, and newsletters to keep the community informed. 

Data Collection and Analysis: 

  • Collect data relevant to community engagement efforts, including feedback from events, online engagement metrics, and partner collaboration outcomes. 
  • Analyze data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities, providing actionable insights to enhance community engagement strategies. 
  • Present findings in an organized manner to senior staff, making recommendations for improved community outreach and engagement. 

General Administrative Support: 

  • Assist in organizing community outreach events, workshops, and meetings. 
  • Participate in team meetings, contributing ideas and feedback to improve engagement strategies. 

Qualifications: 

  • Current college student or recent graduate with a focus on community development, communications, arts administration, or a related field. 
  • Proactive with a keen interest in community engagement and arts education. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. 
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic data analysis tools. 
  • Passionate about serving underrepresented communities and bridging the art access gap.
