Camp Media Specialist

Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Communications and Marketing Department, this position is to further the mission of the camp by capturing the daily life of our campers through photo, as well as maintain our presence via social media during the summer months. All necessary equipment will be provided. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image, and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 17 years of age with a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Demonstrated skills in photography
  • Experience utilizing social media, specifically Facebook & Instagram
  • Preferred experience using Adobe Creative Suite or other editing software
  • Must embody values consistent with the mission of the YMCA
  • Have the ability to work with a diverse population

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for capturing photos at two camps each day, alternating morning, and afternoon at each camp throughout the week
    • Photos to include activities at camp, including: representation of each village and/or unit; aquatics — pool, slash pad and water play; unique elements — climbing tower, zipline, water front, bounce pillow, etc.; arts and crafts; sports and archery; general fun/smiling faces; themed activities; kids in nature; kids in Y shirts whenever possible; campers with counselors; diversity in age and race 
    • Critical to ensure you have updated no photo list to ensure campers that are photographed and shared are allowed
    • Work with camp staff to coordinate best times to be available for capturing photo
    • Assist with the coordination of group photographs, such as sibling photos, unit photos, and all camp photos
  • Responsible for posting the Top 10 images of the day on the camp’s Facebook and Instagram account. Also responsible for caption writing each day
    • Use of Instagram stories is encouraged when photos/short videos tell a great story. No more than 5 a day.
  • Size images appropriately. A size dimension cheat sheet will be provided.
  • No text overlay on images.
  • Maintain all OCFS and YMCA required training standards and certifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to bend, stoop and stretch.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and transport equipment from one location to another.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme heat and humidity. (i.e., outside in all weather)
  • Ability to move from site to branch or site to site, and is required to enter all YMCA environments including, program space/program area.
