Programming Assistant

This internship is part of the 2024 Humanities for Life (HFL) Summer Internship Program. This premier opportunity allows UR students to access traditionally unpaid opportunities that highlight the value of the humanities in the workplace. If selected, students will receive a $5,000 stipend over a minimum 270-hour period in a non-for-profit organization in the Rochester, NY region.

Girls Rock! Rochester is a nonprofit organization dedicated to using music creation and performance as tools for cultivating self-confidence in girls and LGBTQ+ youth. 

Program Assistant Internship 

Girls Rock! Rochester’s (GR!R) internship program provides emerging leaders with the opportunity to help create a safe space for Rochester’s youth and our community at large.  

Involved in both the arts and music community and youth programs sector, interns can expect to expand their knowledge and develop experience by collaborating with our hard-working board and staff members. 

Through various departmental duties, committee teamwork, and special projects, interns will have fun and accomplish their learning objectives in a creative and energetic environment.

REPORTS TO: Program Director 

Description of responsibilities: 

  • Work on-site with participants at our summer camp programs
  • Assist the Program Director as needed
  • Create and develop curriculum for workshops at our summer camp programs
  • Teach workshops, instrument or band coach during our year round and summer camp program
  • Assist in finding musicians to perform at camp
  • Assist with data entry and pre-camp registration paperwork
  • Assist with gear load in and load out of camp
  • Learn about the process of developing a non-profit, including fundraising, budgets, communications/PR, volunteer/participant coordination, and more...

Qualifications: 

  • Commitment to attend engagements/complete assigned tasks
  • Ability to work both independently and with a group
  • Motivated and self-starting
  • Outgoing/positive attitude
  • Experience with data entry a plus
  • Experience with new technology a plus
  • Musical experience or knowledge of music a plus
