Community Engagement Intern - Goodwill

Internship Title: Community Engagement Intern 

Intern Manager: Tory Thomas: tthomas@goodwillfingerlakes.org  

Duration and Hours of Internship: Summer-9 weeks/30 hours per week 

Department: Community Engagement 

Location: Goodwill of the Finger Lakes Headquarters 

SUMMARY: 

Goodwill of the Finger Lakes is a caring, local, person-centered nonprofit organization, headquartered in Rochester, NY. Our mission is "Elevating people, community, and planet for a good today and better tomorrow." We strive to do good across Greater Rochester, Syracuse, and Finger Lakes Region. The Community Engagement Intern will support our mission by assisting with digital communications, community engagement, and awareness efforts. 

INTERN ASSIGNMENT: 

  • Assist with content creation/photos for the website and retail store visit 
  • Refresh Google Business pages for retail stores 
  • Weekend social media engagement 
  • Website review based on benchmarking other Goodwill's marketing strategies and best practice guidelines 

INTERN REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes as illustrated in the Guide for Non-Employees 
  • Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to state and federal regulations regarding confidentiality and privacy 
  • Be accepting, understanding, and non-judgmental or discriminatory 
  • Required to be available on some weekends 
  • Report intern hours to the Intern Manager on a consistent basis  
  • Support various projects that celebrate and create awareness about Goodwill of the Finger Lakes (GFL) community engagement efforts 
  • Assist with day-to-day functions of the Community Engagement Department 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Knowledge of marketing and digital communications 
  • Ability to communicate clearly 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Displays organizational skills and general office skills 
  • Experience using Canva, Adobe, or other graphic design platforms 
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms 
  • Willing to be flexible and adapt to change 
  • The ability to understand and embrace cultural diversity is required 
  • Ability to perform duties with reasonable accommodations  

DRESS CODE:   

Business casual.  

TRAINING:  

Interns are required to participate in departmental and compliance training.  

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

Must have an interest in nonprofits, communications, marketing, or community engagement and outreach. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Must be able to work weekends and evenings when events are taking place. This will not be frequent.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

The physical demands described here are presentative of those that must be met by the intern to successfully perform the assignment. While performing the duties of this job, the intern is required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. The intern must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

The work environment is an office administrative building with a low amount of noise. The temperature may change from time to time.
