Mentor Recruitment and Programming Intern

MENTOR PROGRAM COORDINATOR INTERN POSITION SUMMARY

Healthy Choices AmeriCorps seeks San Francisco community members to provide service to strengthen mentoring programs in over 40 schools across SFUSD. This position is an excellent opportunity to get your foot in the door in San Francisco public schools by coordinating programs and activities in partnership with School Social Workers, Nurses, Teachers, and Community Volunteers. Mentor Program Coordinator AmeriCorps Interns earn an Educational Award upon completion of the internship.

The primary goal of Mentoring For Success is to improve student success by increasing attendance and pro-social behaviors on school campuses. Regular trainings provided by San Francisco Unified School District will ensure Mentor Program Coordinator AmeriCorps Interns have the knowledge and skills to offer high quality volunteer service to schools at individual, group, and school-wide levels.
 

Responsibilities include:

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with Community Based Organizations (CBOs), Partner schools, Parents/Caregivers
    • Build working relationships with CBOs, such as, SF Education Fund and SF Marin Foodbank to develop/maintain partners to support implementation of MFS’s One-to-One and Project Arrive programs
    • Gather, organize, distribute and/or develop handouts, social media, and newsletters that highlight service; Maintain documents for the public on program website
    • Collaborate with the Mentoring For Success and Healthy Choices AmeriCorps Team to build relationships with community partners and parents to improve program visibility, recognize partners and volunteers, and increase community involvement with school sites
  • Connect with local organizations to identify potential mentors
  • Collaborate on planning, coordinating, and implementing programs and events
    • Collaborate with and supplement outreach activities to provide program development and practical support to School Social Workers, AmeriCorps Members, and other staff to implement a district-wide mentoring program established by Student & Family Services Division
    • Collaborate with partnering programs and schools for planning and implementation of District-wide events, such as Annual Mentor Appreciation Event and Family engagement events
    • Mentor students through either MFS’s One-to-One or Project Arrive programs
  • Organize groups, outreach, and educational workshops with team members or onsite staff members
    •  
    • Serve on Program Committees such as Program Activities, Racial Equity, or Recruitment, to further develop and disseminate information through multiple modes of communication, e.g.social media, events
    • Provide resources to School Social Workers, Healthy Choices AmeriCorps members, and group mentors to coordinate all aspects of a mentoring program, including positive, engaging, and safe program activities
