Job Description: HR and PR Intern
• Reports to Vice Presidents of Human Resources and Advancement
• Rate of Pay: $17.00 per hour
• Schedule: 10-20 hours per week as needed or required by educational institution
• Status: temporary/semester or school year
• Location – onsite with occasion for remote work
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Respond to routine information requests, scheduling appointments and collecting appropriate documentation, communicating with internal and external stakeholders with a grateful attitude, maintaining appropriate confidentiality and escalating concerns as necessary.
Open Door Mission is a 501c3 religiously exempt nonprofit. While religious affiliation is not a requirement of this internship opportunity, the primary work environment is within a non-denominational, Christian rescue mission that regularly offers opportunity to staff and clients for Christian development in addition to our regular program curriculum.
Human Resources Key Responsibilities
- Assist in setting up interviews with potential candidates
- Assist in collecting onboarding/offboarding documentation and maintaining orderly files
- Assist in the audits of personnel file to support appropriate reporting and billing
- Assist in the creation of the monthly staff newsletter
- Assist with projects and initiatives as assigned – with a focus on administrative compliance and/or employee engagement and retention with associated training delivered to management at completion
Public Relations Internship
- Assist in drafting communication materials including emails, newsletters and social media content
- Assist in general donor stewardship
- Communicate with current and prospective donors
- Assist event planning and coordination, day of support preferred
General Administrative
- Point of contact for general email and timecard troubleshooting
REPORTING STRUCTURE
Primarily responsible to the Vice President of Human Resources for internship supervision; however, the position is highly collaborative and may take direction from designated personnel between the HR and Advancement offices.

- Able to communicate effectively with diverse populations and across various platforms
- Strong organizational skills
- Demonstrates warmth and active listening skills
- Computer literate, ability to use basic office equipment and software systems for communication and documentation
