Humanities for Life Summer 2022: Development Intern at the Hochstein School

Development Intern

Location: Remote and/or in-person (TBD)
 

Organization Description:

For over 100 years, the mission of The Hochstein School has been to provide people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities access to excellent music and dance education in a community that nurtures and encourages personal achievement. Annually, over 3,500 children, teens, and adults participate in Hochstein’s music and dance instruction as well as art therapy programs.
 

Internship Description:

The Development intern will work closely with Hochstein’s Director of Development and Community Engagement as well as the School’s Assistant Director of Development. Their overarching tasks will focus on supporting outreach, engagement, and fundraising strategies that help further advance the mission of the School. Through various development projects the intern will gain hands-on experience and training in many aspects of fundraising, and volunteer engagement, including research, cultivation, and stewardship, of the various constituencies of the School. They will gain a well-rounded understanding of the nonprofit arts sector.
 

Projects and Responsibilities:

The intern will work on a range of tasks, including:

Supporting Hochstein’s Alumni Relations programs by conducting research aimed at identifying and cultivating this potential donor segment.
This will include, but will not be limited to:
  • Reviewing internal records and other sources (i.e. social media, faculty, internet) to identify and update information on alumni and ensure it is included in our CRM system.
  • Identifying ways to attract and maintain relationships with alumni through outreach, engagement, and targeted communications.
  • Reaching out to alumni and current students to interview them for Hochstein’s Alumni E-Newsletter and other digital platforms.
 
Other tasks and responsibilities may include:
  • Attending training sessions and staff meetings as assigned.
  • Assisting with information processing through our CRM system - Bloomerang.
  • Liaising with the Marketing Department, and supporting social media needs.

Requirements and Qualifications:


  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong writing and editing skills with great attention to detail
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills related to data management and information tracking
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and video conferencing software (such as Zoom). Experience with other software such as social media, photo editing, and databases aren’t required, but are a plus.
 

Details:

  • 10-week duration, 30 hours per week (specific times to be determined upon hiring).
  • This internship will require working remotely. There may be flexibility for some limited in-person work, however, this will depend on current (real-time) restrictions related to social distancing rules due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The ability to work in-person is not a requirement.
