Humanities for Life 2022: Institute for Music Leadership Intern at Eastman School of Music

The Institute for Music Leadership at the Eastman School of Music is a center to create, share, support, and implement innovative ideas and programs to ensure the relevance and impact of music in today’s world.

The Institute for Music Leadership (IML) Intern will have opportunities to be an essential part of three major initiatives at the IML, including:

Arts In The Loop:

This group includes community leaders who are passionate about Rochester, and whose mission is to energize Rochester’s center city by leveraging the Arts, Entertainment and Media sectors with an initial focus on the Main Street corridor. The Proof of Concept programs planned for 2020, canceled due to Covid-19, will be redesigned during the summer of 2021.

IML Program Marketing:

The intern will direct planning of the marketing strategies for the implementation of the 2021-2022 Grant Program and will assist the IML team in developing internal communication strategies directed at Eastman and River Campus students.

The Eastman Case Studies:

This IML publication series produces two volumes of educational case studies each year for use by music school faculty, students and professionals in the musical arts field. We are currently exploring a collaboration with the College Music Society on a category of cases that explores critical issues in music schools. Summer 2021 may include the development of a prototype of cases for this collaboration that are published as multi-media presentations for which the HFL intern will provide technical and production support.

The Humanities for Life Intern will be an essential part of these projects, with specific roles and duties tailored to the skills and experiences of the intern.

Skills and characteristics of a successful intern candidate may include:

· Ability to work independently and be self-directed
· Experience working with diverse communities, especially arts and arts organizations
· Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
· Highly organized, yet flexible
· Problem-solving skills
· Marketing experience, including with social media
· Strong writing and editing skills
· Technical skills in media that may include audio engineering, video production, audio/video post-production, and other media/tech skills (e.g., A/R, V/R)

The preferred start date for this internship is on or near June 1.
There are 30 hours required per week. This internship schedule will be flexible, determined by the supervisor and intern. Preference will be for an in-person internship, but may be changed to virtual depending on university, local and state guidelines.

The intern will work from the Institute for Music Leadership Office (IML) of the Eastman School of Music and be supervised by the IML Director and/or appropriate IML staff.
