Humanities for Life Summer 2022: Social Media Strategist Intern at PUSH Physical Theatre

Organization Description:

PUSH Physical Theatre (PUSH) was founded in 2000 by Darren and Heather Stevenson. The PUSH mission is to create and perform physical stories to inspire change and empower learners of all ages to tell their own stories. Its unconventional artistic process integrates non-traditional movement and acting and is supported by the belief that each performer’s unique life experiences contribute to the development of innovative movement vocabulary.

From its inception, PUSH Physical Theatre has maintained a balance between producing cutting edge theatre and facilitating meaningful learning opportunities. The creative collaboration employed in each component of its work significantly informs the other.

PUSH performs locally, tours nationally/internationally, and provides educational programming in the Greater Rochester area including: K-12 Arts Residencies; PUSH Adult Summer Intensive for professional adult performers and teachers; PUSH Pins After School Program; PUSH Pins Performing Arts Camp, a day-camp for children aged 4-13; PUSH Pins Teen Mentorship Program for teens aged 14-18; and Lectures, Workshops and Residencies for adult learners in community and education organizations.
 
Internship Description:
The Social Media Strategist will work directly with Darren & Heather Stevenson to research trends in social media strategies on popular platforms, develop a plan to increase engagement for PUSH, develop digital materials using PUSH’s existing brand, execute the plan, and create a work-flow template so that the plan can continue to be implemented after the internship is complete.
Responsibilities:
·      Review PUSH’s website and current social media presence. Identify strengths and weaknesses.
·      Research the social media landscape. Specifically what do other arts organizations do? What is innovative? Where do trends point in the next 12 months?
Develop a strategy to increase views and engagements and other deliverables in two areas:
1.    Short-term intensive growth phase.
2.    Long-term sustainable phase.
·      Execute the short-term plan. This will include:
·      Developing images, video, infographics, etc.
·      Writing informational and comedic posts.
·      Telling the story of PUSH and developing meaningful connections and engagements.
·      Evaluate the results
·      Communicate the long-term plan to PUSH and train company members where needed
Requirements:
·      Ability to work independently and be self-directed
·      Ability to ‘own’ a project. Not just follow project steps, but create them
  • Organization: Task management, time management, reliable and timely
  • Tech-Savvy: Quick to pick up new tools
  • An eye for visual arrangements, creative mindset and drive to execute new ideas
  • A strong knowledge of social analytics tools and social scheduling
  • Creative Thinking: Bring new perspectives and fresh ideas to the table
·      Sense of Humor and ability to write in a comedic voice
·      Outstanding writing communication skills
·      Graphic design skill
·      Photo and Video editing competence (Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, etc.)
·      Excellent research skills
·      Deep understanding of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter, etc.
·      Ability to self-evaluate work based on online engagements
Positive Attitude: High-energy, team player, and a good sense of humor.
Additional Details:
·      If the intern is local there may be opportunities to photograph or otherwise document the activities of the company.
·      One weekly meeting will be scheduled with Darren and/or Heather to discuss project progress. Additional meeting will be scheduled as needed to discuss the interns long-term goals and receive input as desired.

Most of the work will be remote. Depending on COVID restrictions all of the work may be remote.
