Humanities For Life Summer 2022: Volunteer Coordinator & Case Management Internships at Mary's Place

Internship Position: Volunteer Coordinator

 
About Mary’s Place:
 
Mary’s Place is a small refugee outreach center that has been serving refugee families living in the City of Rochester since 2009.   We assist these families as they work to adjust to American culture, learn English, find employment, gain permanent residency, and ultimately, citizenship. We aspire to provide a safe community atmosphere for our families to come together and thrive. Our hours of operation are 11:00am – 4:00pm Monday-Friday.
 
Internship Duties:
  • Monitor Volunteer Coordinator email, and Mary’s Place social media – corresponding with prospective and current volunteers about various volunteer opportunities at Mary’s Place
  • Coordinate days/times to meet with potential volunteers at Mary’s Place to give a tour, discuss volunteer opportunities, and provide information about volunteer paperwork
  • Maintain all volunteer paperwork in filing system, update spreadsheet, and deliver documentation to be processed
  • Assist with weekly Food Distribution program – Wednesdays
  • Maintain inventory of hygiene goods for monthly distribution
  • Update the Executive Director about volunteer inquiries (who wants to volunteer and what they are volunteering for)
  • Create monthly volunteer schedule and share with staff
  • Update volunteer and intern hours in database
  • Design Social Media Content for recruitment campaigns, donation campaigns, and other projects
  • Assist in the planning and organizing of the annual backpack and school supply donation drive
  • Other related duties may be assigned or added.
 
Internship Requirements:
  • Minimum time commitment of 2 days per week, including Wednesday 8:00am – 1:00pm
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, G-Suite, and Social Media
 

Internship Position: Case Manager

  
About Mary’s Place:
 
We currently offer the following program and services Monday-Friday from 11:00-4:00. Intern’s hours will be 10:00AM - 4:00PM 2 days per week, 11:00am – 4:00PM 2 days a week, and 8:00AM – 4:00PM on Wednesdays.
  
Internship Duties:
  • Assist walk-in clients navigate through the department of social services, assist with medical appointments and health insurance, assist with housing, read mail, make phone calls, any other paperwork assistance needed including but not limited to:  utility shutoffs, job resumes and job applications, and food emergencies
  • Monitor Case Manager email-for responses from agencies, notification of available jobs and apartments
  • Complete intake forms with all new clients; document client contact on case management log and in database daily
  • Collaborate with community representatives and attend meetings of local organizations, committees, and other providers related to employment, training and housing. maybe add education and immigration/refugee issues
  • Participate in performance related goal setting and achievement to meet personal and organizational objectives and goals.
  • Attend to clothing closet/donation sorting as needed
  • Other related duties may be assigned or added.
