Youth and Community Engagement Program Development

 
The Department of Academic Programs at the Memorial Art Gallery would be pleased to host a Humanities for Life intern for the summer of 2022. This internship would primarily focus on building engagement opportunities, initiatives, and programs for museum visitors who are both high school and college students. The intern would work closely with the Director of Academic Programs and other members of the department to take on specific projects and to learn about the following aspects of museum engagement:

-       Building a successful long-term strategic plan for engaging college and graduate students with the museum through meaningful and sustainable programs.
-       Developing an initiative that allows students in 7th through 12th grades to become involved and invested in museum programming, the permanent collection, and temporary exhibitions.
-       Creating opportunities for community engagement that have broad appeal and are impactful, as well as accessible.
-       Ensuring that diversity and inclusivity are top priorities for all programs and initiatives.
Students who are interested in some combination (but not necessarily all) of the following areas of focus are encouraged to apply.

These areas of focus include: the visual arts; community/youth engagement; issues concerning diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEIA); arts education; and museum studies or the museum profession more broadly.

Historical Research, Archival Document Preservation, and Virtual Content Creation and Delivery


The Charlotte Whitney Allen Library and the Department of Academic Programs at the Memorial Art Gallery would be pleased to host a Humanities for Life intern for the summer of 2022. This internship would primarily focus on conducting archival research, working closely with historical documents and library resources, preserving records, and developing methods of delivering digital content related to both historical records and art exhibitions to wide audiences. The intern would work closely with both the Director of Academic Programs and the Curator of Interpretive Resources to take on specific projects and to learn about the following aspects of research and digital content creation:
 
-       Building a long-term strategic plan for preserving and providing access to archival records and education resources.
-       Making key decisions about the relevance and significance of historical records within a well-defined framework.
-       Creating digital content from archival records and other materials.
-       Providing broad access to a variety of library resources and helping to ensure that those resources fit within institutional mission and goals.
-       Creating virtual interactive experiences for museum audiences based around a specific temporary art exhibition.
Students who are interested in some combination (but perhaps not all) of the following area of focus are encouraged to apply. These areas of focus include: historical research with primary documents; digital content creation; building systems for research and information gathering; providing access to archival records; and the creation of digital media and virtual engagement opportunities.
